The Spartans might have had the easiest win ever in round 6, but they faced the polar opposite on Saturday. One of the league’s best, Old Geelong, was a completely different team from their first encounter in round 1, giving the Spartans their toughest battle to date. The final score was the closest the Spartans have come to a loss, but they still managed a solid 27 points difference. Old Geelong managed 84 points to the Spartans’ 111.

The defence on both sides was working extremely hard, with only 31 shots fired by the Spartans getting through. Old Geelong felt like they had a lot to prove sitting second on the ladder and showed that in the first quarter, taking a lot of the possession. It fell apart in the remaining quarters but still produced solid points to keep them cemented on the top of the ladder.

The Spartans take on Prahran Assumption for round 8, this time playing at Righetti Oval, Talbot Crescent, Kooyong at 11.40am.

The Spartans are also hosting a special poker night fundraiser at the club’s headquarters on June 14.

Tickets are $50, and includes a BBQ and soft drinks. Cash prizes will be awarded on the night for the best poker players.
