Within the Government's efforts to ensure Victoria maintains its competitive edge and maximises its potential, Treasurer Tim Pallas travelled to Silicon Valley in order to meet with some of the world's leading tech giants.

His visit took place on the grounds of examining advanced data-science techniques to manage and mitigate economic and financial risks and challenges brought about by emerging technology.

Mr Pallas will also be meeting with Microsoft and Cisco, as well as IBM and Stanford University.

Discussion aims to explore integrated solutions to digitise Victoria, how to do business better and more productively using cyber security for growth, inbound investment, and responding to digital disruption.

The Victorian economy includes a diverse portfolio of competitively advancing industries which include financial services, tourism, research, health care and agriculture.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) will play a critical role in the ongoing and successful development of these industries in Victoria, as an ever increasing number of devices connect to the internet and the cloud.

"We know our success with ICT is critical to the operation and growth of business, to creating jobs and to the living standards of all Victorians," stated Mr Pallas.

"We want to make sure we're in the best position to assess global and domestic technology trends so Victoria can take advantage of the ever-changing digital landscape."
