Two Greek nationals will take part in this year’s New York City Marathon, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious, which attracts both amateur and elite runners from around the globe.

Athens 2004 Olympic gold medallist Athanasia Tsoumeleka and 50-year-old compatriot Mary Liarou-Barabaris will both feature in this year’s race for charity Make-A-Wish Greece, and are reaching out to youth with a simple collective message.

“Nothing is impossible when there is faith in us.

“When there is faith in life, faith in hope, faith in struggle, faith for the better – have faith and ‘Make-A-Wish’ and everything is possible.”

For Tsoumeleka this will be her first NYC race, while Liarou-Barabaris ran her first race two years ago.

The New York City Marathon is scheduled for November 1.
