What happens when a nagging parent becomes too much to bear? Her children conspire against her.

Presented by the League of Greeks of Egypt and Middle East (EEAMA) Μάνα, Μητέρα, Μαμά (Mum, Mother, Mum) is a play by George Dialegmenou and will have its first preview on Saturday 21 February at South Oakleigh Secondary College.

Set in a suburban family home, the play starts to unfold in a simple and common setting – the living room – where snippets of conversation start to reveal the minor problems that all families seem to have.

It quickly becomes apparent that there is an extreme power imbalance, with the one who holds the most influence being the mother.
Due to illness and the effects of ageing, she finds herself in a wheelchair; however, her immobility is not enough to stop her from ranting and ordering everyone around.

As a result, her children and their partners, sick and tired of tip-toeing around their mother, come together and conspire about how to gain control and put an end to this elderly woman’s tirade.

Sure to entertain, Mum, Mother, Mum is a mixture of comedy and drama, Dialegmenou claiming that it cannot be categorised under one genre alone.

“It has a lot of comedic points, but also dramatic scenes, which culminate at the end and provoke tears from the audience,” he said.

“One could say that it is a social satire, which has sprung out of the actual experiences that each of us lives daily.”

Mum, Mother, Mum will commence on Saturday 21 February and take place every weekend until Sunday 29 March, 2015. For bookings, call George on (03) 9773 0621 or 0419 339 502.
