It might have been stiff competition last weekend, but the Hawthorn Spartans managed to make the most of their attack and secure their 10th win in a row.

Up against second on the ladder, Old Xaverians, it was an unexpected game for the Spartans, having to prove that their ladder position isn’t for show.

They made 12 changes to the squad the Spartans met in round four, and stuck to their game plan until the fourth quarter, when the Spartan attack broke
through.

The Spartans had an even spread of goal kickers, with Antonio Brizzi topping the list once more with three goals (not his best but a good effort considering the opponent).

In the end, the score was one of the toughest for the Spartans, finishing 103 to the Xaverians’ 70.

The pressure is now on, with five games left in the season, the Spartans will be feeling like the hunted at the top of the ladder.

Their next game is up against Prahran Assumption at their home ground Righetti Oval at 11:40am on Saturday 28 June.
