Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was reelected on Sunday at the presidency of ruling leftist party SYRIZA.

The voting took place during the party’s second Congress in Paleo Faliro, Greece with Tsipras receiving 93.54 per cent of the delegates’ support and only 210 opposed. This is a significantly bigger percentage than the 74 per cent the PM had got back in 2013.

“The renewal of confidence in me constitutes a renewal of responsibility for a SYRIZA that is more massive, more inclusive, more efficient in the difficult battles awaiting us, for a Greece of justice and prosperity,” the PM wrote on Twitter after his reelection.

Earlier on Saturday, Tsipras had vowed to push for a new round of debt relief by the end of the year, based on the outcome of the bailout’s second scheduled audit, scheduled for Tuesday.

“We intend to conclude the second review immediately,” Tsipras said reassuring his government is fulfilling all of the creditors’ demand.

“Delays, stalling tactics and postponements cannot and will not be accepted. We claim all that was foreseen in the agreement, immediately,” he said.
