The 4th Athens Half Marathon was an unqualified organizing and sporting success on Sunday, as thousands of runners joined in the race of the 21-kilometers and the 3k and 5k runs in the capital’s city center.
The fabulous weather conditions and the coincidence of a working day for stores on the first Sunday of May made for a great event in Athens that several foreigners also enjoyed, not only as spectators but also as runners.
The participation of over 18,000 runners is a record for the event that is growing every year.
Michalis Parmakis won the men’s 21k race clocking 1 hour 12 minutes and 2 seconds, followed by Greek Marathon champion Giorgos Menis 33 seconds later.
Sofia Riga won the women’s race with a time of 1:21.58, ahead of Magda Gazea (1:22.04).
