Four in ten businesses in Greece are at risk of closure, according to a new survey by the National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce (NCHC).

Forty two per cent of businesses in Greece are “very” or “quite likely” to close in the near future, compared to 58 per cent of respondents who said that their business is “not at all” or “not much likely” to shut down. The nationwide survey was carried out from March to June on a sample of 2,375 merchants.
According to this study, the average net profit for merchants has decreased by 86 per cent since 2009. However, the vast majority of respondents stated that they are not planning to proceed with layoffs. Only 15 per cent of respondents said they expect to reduce their number of employees, while 74 per cent said they expect the number will remain stable and 19 per cent that they are planning to increase their number of staff. Four in ten commercial enterprises expect the recession to deepen, compared with a 27 per cent who believe it will ease and 29 per cent who foresee no change at all.
The National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce is the peak body of the Hellenic Commerce world at all levels and on every trade-related aspect.
