The prospect for greater cooperation between Greece and China was raised at a book event in Athens, as officials from both states spoke with praise of their mutual collaboration.

Launching the English translation of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s book “the Governance of China”, officials drew comparisons on the way the countries had to implement a series of reforms, in the recent years. President Xi’s book offers significant insight on the measures China took to achieve its spectacular growth and presents a platform for the country to position itself in the international field of trade.

Greek Culture Minister praised the book, which is yet to be translated in Greek, as “an important vehicle for improving mutual understanding”; he then went on to praise China as “a major power which is moving energetically to the fore in Greece for mutual benefit,” an apparent reference to the expanding presence of Chinese shipping giant Cosco at the port of Piraeus. Apart from trade and shipping, officials from the two countries agree that there is fertile ground for bilateral cooperation in tourism, culture and other sectors.
