Greek Academics have called a two day strike for today and tomorrow in support of administrative employees of Greek universities, as the administrative staff members entered their fourth week of mobilization with a new five-day strike. The unrest in Greek tertiary institutions is due to the implementation of the controversial mobility scheme, which will affect more than 1,300 administrative staff members in tertiary institutions by temporarily losing their jobs before possible relocation or sacking.

The Chairperson of the Chancellors Council of Greece and Chancellor of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Yiannis Milopoulos requested the Ministry of Education to suspend the Common Ministerial Decision application in relation to the layoffs of administrative staff members, in order for both parties to find an acceptable and consistent methodology regarding administrative employees evaluation process, otherwise, “This will be a tough winter for education,” he said.
