Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras met with IMF head Ms Christine Lagarde in Washington this week, where they discussed the debt sustainability issue.
Mrs Lagarde commented on the progress the country has made, while she urged Greece to continue with the implementation of structural reforms and assured Mr. Samaras “that the IMF remains committed to helping Greece.”
After their meeting Mr Samaras stated that the discussion with Ms Lagarde went well and that the two of them discussed the viability of the Greek debt.
On behalf of the International Monetary Fund Ms. Christine Lagarde, issued the following statement after her meeting with Antonis Samaras:
“Prime Minister Samaras and I had a productive discussion this afternoon on recent economic developments and challenges facing Greece. I commended him on the progress that Greece has made under its economic program towards fiscal sustainability, restoring competitiveness and financial stability, and stressed the importance of moving forward on institutional and structural reforms and implementing a robust 2014 budget to achieve the program’s objectives. I assured him that the IMF remains committed to helping Greece in this endeavor.”
