Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Greece this week underlined his country’s support for the country’s economic reform efforts and pledged to promote bilateral economic cooperation following talks with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, which focused on the energy sector and on Greece’s privatizations portfolio.
Bilateral talks touched on the issue of the stalled Burgas-Alexandroupoli oil pipeline project, with the Russianssuggesting that more pressure be put on Bulgaria to back the initiative.
The privatization of the railway service operator Trainose and the Thessaloniki Port Authority have already attracted the interest of Russian interests and were part of the discussions held between the Greek government and the Russian Foreign Minister.
A request by Athens for a reduction in the price of natural gas supplied by Gazprom is expected to be granted.
