True stories and songs from Greece and Cyprus, English traditional and original compositions, from the award-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist Loucas Loizou, will be performed at the Adelaide’s 2013 Festival Hellenika and Adelaide Fringe.
In three beautiful evenings, the well-known singer will accompany himself with acoustic and classical guitars, and sometimes piano.
Loucas Loizou was born in Katokopia, Cyprus to Greek parents. He has studied guitar and piano at London’s Trinity College of Music. While on holidays in London in 1974, Turkey invaded Cyprus and occupied his hometown in the Northern part of the Island. He suddenly found himself a refugee and a migrant without a home. To earn a living he began singing at Cat Steven’s family restaurant in London many years ago. Life is a song for him. Snging helps ease the emotional pain while he continues to wait for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
Loucas was awarded the Cyprus “Aeterna” a honorary award of the House of Representatives by the former President of Cyprus, Mr Dimitris Christofias.
His album Migrants – Metanastes has 19 songs in Greek, Greek Cypriot dialect and English. Some are his original compositions and others are folk songs of Greece and Cyprus with new arrangements.
Life is a Song will run for the first three weeks in March, on Friday nights at the Folk Federation/Guthries-Eliza hall, 126 Prospect Road, Prospect, (Parking off Olive Street), Prospect Town Hall.
