If you have a penchant for one-off designs, then design markets are the place for you. Tomorrow, over 10,000 visitors will embark on the carpark of Melbourne’s Federation Square to immerse themselves in all things design.

A showcase for all things design, the spectacular day will feature original designs in the latest in fashion, homewares, furniture, lighting and so much more. With recognisable brands at the market; the Melbourne Design Market will also feature some new enterprises. Meet the designers, enjoy fine food and coffee, and be part of the Melbourne Design Market’s own style in fostering and promoting design.

Designer Jack Papoutsidis of JP Designs will be one of the 50 designers at the market on Sunday. “Artists markets have a target audience which is good so people who are design focused would attend it rather than your Victoria Markets type people which are more broader and general,” said Jack of the markets.

“Design markets target design conscious people and products that are unique of nature which is quite difficult to get these days unless you look in magazines or publications that are designed focused. The benefit of these markets is that people looking for new designers such as retailers may pick up a product so it’s good for up-and-coming designers, people with a limited production line that can sell there and then.” Jack said that JP Designs are “a product and furniture design company. We have a range of products that would be tables, chairs, lighting, mirrors and homewares and at the moment we are launching a new clock. So we are using the design market to do that. We are a web based company so most of our products are sold through the website and some selected outlets. We are essentially designed focused rather than your traditional type furniture.”

The Melbourne Design Markets will be held this Sunday 24 July at 10.00 am to 5.00 pm at Federation Square, Level 3, Federation Square Carpark, Cnr Flinders Street and Swanston Street, Melbourne.
