Greek Australian Elena Paraskeva and her partner Con believe they were the subject of mistaken identity after their suburban Melbourne home was sprayed with bullets in a late-night drive-by this week.
The Rio Grande Drive home in Roxburgh Park was targeted in the unprovoked attack. The couple heard a loud bang and then were woken to discover their house had been hit with shots.
“We felt something was very wrong when we heard that,” Ms Paraskeva told the Herald Sun.
“When I came out to have a look he (Con) said keep away from the front door.”
No one was injured.
Neighbours of the couple have described the attack as sounding like fireworks before an unidentified vehicle screeched down the street.
Ms Paraskeva said the shots were like a warning and it was lucky no one was injured. “Not long before it happened I went out to the front to take something to the bin,” she said.
Detective John Tsianakas from Hume Crime Investigation Unit said the attack did not appear to be gang-related even though the attack has left police unsure as to why it occurred.
