Aristole Onassis’ sole surviving air, granddaughter Athina Onassis Roussel has sold their family’s Ionian Sea Island to a Russian billionaire for £100 million ($146 million).
The billionaire’s identity hasn’t been disclosed but sources say the deal is being drafted at the moment between Athenian and Geneva lawyers.
The island of Skorpios was bought by Onassis in 1962 for apparently 3.5 million drachmas, about $14,500.
It is believe Ms Onassis, who lives with her husband in Brazil, has little interest in spending time on the island or in Greece and wanted to sell the island for some time.
In the past there have been rumours that Giorgio Armani, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, and Madonna were interested in buying the tiny island.
Most famously, the island hosted Mr Onassis’ wedding to Jacquie Keneddy in 1968, and hosted many lavish parties for the social elite in Greece.
