“Today marks 27 years of being married to my soul mate, the love of my life, my best friend, my heart. Love reigns,” Rita Wilson posted on Twitter on her wedding anniversary a month ago, making the internet melt.

The Greek American actress had been diagnosed with cancer at the time and had taken a month off in recovery, to undergo a double mastectomy and reconstruction.

Her first diagnosis came back negative – which cost her time, but when she went on to get a second opinion, she discovered she actually had the disease.
“I was so amazed and so blown away by the care that my husband gave me,” she told The New York Times.

“Who knew it would make you even closer? You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this.

“I was so amazed and so blown away by the care that my husband gave me. It was such a normal, intimate time,” she added.

Rita Wilson, who has returned to her Broadway play Fish In The Dark, explained she went public in an effort to raise awareness of the issue and to urge women to seek second evaluations.

After having spent the recovery process together at home with Tom Hanks watching DVDs and dealing with the pain, she took to social media to admit that the support from Tom has helped her have a positive outlook on the reconstruction.
