The coach of the Greek National Football team Fernando Santos has hinted that he wants PAOK Thessalonikis Portuguese star Adelino Vieirinha to play for Greece.

According to reports in Greece, Santos, himself also Portuguese, has asked the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) to look into the matter and if all can be arranged Vieirinha could soon don the blue and white jersey of the national team.

The Portuguese star has represented his country’s youth teams several times but has never played for the senior side, which means he remains eligible to play for Greece. One of the biggest stars in the Super League over the last few seasons, Vieirinha would be a worth addition to the Greek team which has long been suffering a lack of decent wingers, with national coach Fernando Santos resorting to the use of Giorgos Samaras and Giorgos Karagounis on the left wing.

Vieirinha himself has said he is strongly considering the proposal, particularly after several Portuguese commentators made it clear that despite his talent he would always struggle to make it into the Portuguese national team which includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani. Meanwhile Vieirinha’s Greek partner, Vassiliki, is about to give birth to their child, giving the talented footballer another reason to stay in Greece and perhaps one day soon wear the blue and white national shirt.
