With the theatrical play Socrates Now, the timeless classic of history’s most famous trial, The Apology of Socrates, will come alive at Melbourne’s Hellenic Museum next Friday, in what will be the Australian premiere of the internationally acclaimed New York production.

In an 80 minute solo performance, the Emmy award winning actor and Yale Drama School graduate Yannis Simonides channels the eccentric yet magnetic personality of Socrates and offers a profoundly social, political, and above all human work which captivates with its humour, immediacy and simplicity.
Socrates Now invites a modern audience to take a seat in the court of Athens and be judge and jury as Socrates goes on trial for his life. This interactive experience provokes thought and debate on the issues of ethics, citizenship, truth, justice, and the relevance of Socrates’ thought in society today. Every performance is followed by a thought-provoking open discussion with Simonides.

Socrates Now, the production of the New York’s Elliniko Theatro, has been presented in countries around the world, in diverse spaces such as the Roman Agora of Athens, the Hub Westminster, the United Nations, the European Parliament, Harvard and Oxford Universities, to standing ovations.
