Archbishop Ieronymos, the head of the Church of Greece, said he was saddened by the actions of SYRIZA MP Vangelis Diamantopoulos who impersonated a drunken priest at a New Year’s Day carnival in northern Greece.

“It is sad that at such a crucial time for the country a member of Parliament would behave in such a foolish way,” said Ieronymos.

Thessaloniki’s outspoken bishop, Anthimos, was blunter in his assessment of the lawmaker’s appearance in Kastoria. “He should repent and that might lead to his forgiveness,” said Anthimos of the MP. “His party can do what it likes,” added the bishop of SYRIZA.

Diamantopoulos rode a float dressed as a priest conducting a burial ceremony for the EU-IMF memorandum.
