Wet weather football became the rule of the day as the rain fell down relentlessly for the entire match - The Hawthorn boys soon acclimatised to the conditions and bagged 8 goals by quarter time.
They held an 81 point lead at half time, but with conditions becoming increasingly difficult to score freely, the game turned into a slogging contest in the third quarter with only one goal scored by each side. After a blast from the coach, Hawthorn went into the last quarter with a positive mind-set and comprehensively beat the wet conditions and their opponents to run out comfortable winners by 112 points.
