Merle Jackomos OAM, was one of the 20 indigenous Victorians to be honoured in an Australian first through inductions to the nation’s Indigenous Honour Roll. Mr Jackomos was inducted into the roll for his efforts in establishing many important community-run services that benefit Aboriginal communities.
The honour roll is to ensure that future generations continue to recognise and pay tribute to those who have made and continue to make significant contributions to society. The Victorian Indigenous Honour Roll is part of the Victorian Government’s broader commitment to closing the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Victorians.
“The Victorian Indigenous Honour Roll will acknowledge the legacy and achievements of Indigenous Victorians, past and present, who have made, and who continue to make, important and lasting contributions to our society,” said Ted Baillieu, premier of Victoria.
