When it comes to travel, Athens is a polarising city; people either seem to love it, or hate it. But for those apart of the first camp, it will come as no surprise that the Greek capital has once again been nominated for ‘Best European Destination 2018’ via the European Best Destinations (EBD) website.

Joining Athens are 19 other cities from across Europe, including Hungary’s Budapest, England’s London and Paris, France.

In 2017, Athens ranked highly coming in fourth, while Portugal’s Porto took out the top spot.

Other than winning the title of ‘Best European Destination 2018’, the successful city will also be permitted to use the competitions logo on all communication and advertising material, and on websites and photos to spread the word.

The competition is now in its ninth year. Organised by EBD based in Brussels, the concept came about in a bid to promote culture and tourism across Europe.

Voting is open until 8 February. To cast yours, visit europeanbestdestinations.com/european-best-destinations-2018/
