Having promised to serve ouzo of Plomari straight from Agios Isidoros supplied by Tirnavos Imports, the Lesvos Cultural Club – Palesviaki Enosis of Melbourne and Victoria delivered once again, throwing one of the most successful annual Lesvos Ouzo Festivals on Sunday 4 February.
The ouzo and meze tradition brought together a crowd of 1,500 people of all ages in Bayswater, Melbourne to celebrate and enjoy Greek culture, marking the end of summer.
Sunday’s event kicked off at 11.00 am with the $15 entry price allowing festival goers to keep their glass to sample the range of the anise-flavoured spirit on offer throughout the day.
Stalls with traditional Greek delicacies served grilled octopus, calamari, gyros, Several sardines and classic Greek salad.
Rythmos and Strofes Live bands performed, and the Pegasus Dance Academy entertained with dances from Mitilini, leading the crowd in Greek dancing.
Children enjoyed the jumping castles, backgammon competitions, face painting, and baby animal farm.
Festival goers congratulated the club committee and president Sofia Vatos for a successful day.
