Katerina Stefanidi won Greece’s only medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham on Saturday, finishing third in the pole vault.

The Olympic pole vault champion cleared 4.80 metres, just behind winner Sandi Morris who made 4.95 metres, and Russian Anzhelika Sidorova with 4.90 metres.

While a positive result, Stefanidi was hoping to improve on her performance and go two better to finally get her hands on the World Indoor gold.

Meanwhile, teenager Emmanouil Karalis came fifth in the men’s pole vault, while managing to record a personal best in the championships with 5.80 metres.
Also competing was Costas Filippidis, who finished seventh with 5.70 metres.
