A fire has completely destroyed the Greek Orthodox Chruch of St Panteleimon at Glenelg North in Adelaide.

St Panteleimon is the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in South Australia, operating since 1981.

Neos Kosmos Adelaide correspondent Theodora Maios who is at the scene reports that firefighters were called to the building on 533 Anzac Hwy in Glenelg North at lunch time and brought the fire under control. The fire was still burning at 2.30pm, according to Mrs Maios.

Speaking to Theodora Maios, Nikos Kapolos the president of St Panteleimon parish said that it was probably an electric issue although the cause has not yet been confirmed by investigators who are looking into the cause of the blaze.

The fire is said to have started round 12.30pm, after the end of the morning liturgy which was carried out without issues.
