Kalymnos has been painted blue and white. Just below a Holy Church in the village of Mavrovouni, a giant Greek flag spanning 375 square metres was painted on Monday.

It was conceptualised by the Ambelas brothers, who are painters by trade, to honour four people who died at the site 38 years ago during Easter due to an explosion.

The idea was realised with the help of a number of locals who volunteered to complete the flag.

The brothers have since approached the local council to request permission to install headlamps at the site of the flag to illuminate it at night.
