On Saturday 20th June, my adorable mum had the pleasure of seeing Notis Sfakianakis live in concert.

Her ticket was a gift from my cousin living in Saudi Arabia, whom graciously offered to shout mum and her three sisters a night out on the town to see one of their favourite Greek singers.

As the four siblings meandered to the gates of Hisense Arena arm in arm, the gaggle were more than ecstatic for the show to begin.

They were escorted to a trapezi three rows from the stage, and proceeded to sip on the bottomless bottles of scotch and other hard liquor on the table.

The concert was an incredible experience for my mum and my aunties.

They adored Sfakianakis before, and now they have fallen head over heals with him once more.

His politically charged songs were nothing short of incredible, and Mum expressed sheer delight over the whole experience.

She described his lyrics as “poetry in motion”.

The politically charged songs mixed with the classic old pieces were spectacular in her eyes.

She danced and sang along throughout the entirety of Sfakianakis’ close to four hour show, and to my great delight left me an extensive voicemail during his signature Genethlia.

All around, Mum and her three sisters were incredibly enthused with the moving and incredibly entertaining performance.
