Greece is soon to become the third city in Europe to have a Grand Hyatt hotel, along with Germany and Turkey.

Announced on Tuesday by Hyatt Hotels Corporation, it revealed the hotel would be situated on Syngrou Avenue in Athens’ Koukaki district at the site of the former Ledra Marriott Hotel.

“We are thrilled to announce plans for the first Hyatt property in Athens with Henderson Park, Hines and Kokari,” said Hyatt vice-president for Eastern Europe, Russia and CIS, Takuya Aoyama.

“We have long sought to bring the Grand Hyatt brand’s celebratory luxury to the Greek capital.”

Attracted by an economy showing promise and a steady rise in tourist arrivals each year – in March foreign arrivals were up 30.3 per cent year-on-year – the deal represents a significant milestone in Southeast Europe, an important growth market for Hyatt with recent Hyatt development announcements in Turkey and Bulgaria.

Set to be managed by Kokari Limited, the five-star luxury hotel will be equipped with 310 rooms and designed to reflect its location and local culture featuring dramatic architecture.

There will also be over 11,600 sq ft of meeting space, along with a spa and fitness centre.

But the highlight is sure to be the hotel’s stunning view of the Acropolis, which guests will be able to admire from the rooftop bar, restaurant and outdoor swimming pool.

Expected to open between July and September of this year, the new site in Athens will be Hyatt Hotels’ second in Greece; in 1999, the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki opened its doors.
