A student from Kavala is set to represent Greece in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in the United States this year.

Efi Ziota, 16, from the 6th Kavala High School took out first place in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 at the Pan Hellenic final held in Athens on Saturday, where she competed against 100 students from across Greece.

She will be joined by Anastasios Melas from Sparta and Panagiotis Nikolopoulos from Afidnes, Attica, who tied equal first in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word to represent Greece.

Presented by Certiport, Inc. the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship taking place for the 17th year, will be based in Orland, Florida from 29 July to 1 August.

There will be people aged 13 to 22 competing from 140 countries around the world. The competition evaluates participants’ skills in Microsoft applications from 2013 to 2016, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

It is an impressive achievement for the three Greek representatives, especially given that some 700,000 students competed in the preliminary stages of the competition.

The first place prize winner of the championship takes home $7,000, among a host of other prizes.
