The Hawthorn Spartans turned up to play power footy last Saturday and that’s exactly what they did, by decimating the Eley Park Sharks in the first quarter. The opposition had no answer to the Spartan midfield onslaught going down in a Hawthorn barrage of run and spread.

The game was all over by half-time with the Spartans in front by 117 points.

The outcome was a forgone conclusion, so after the major break, it was how far the Spartans with the demolition job on the opposition. Hawthorn had an average of 21 overlap runs per quarter, 87 inside 50’s, 60 shots for goal and had another five first game players in the side contributing to the record breaking 24 point win.

All throughout the contest the Spartans adhered to their structures, game plan, set plays and were able to manufacture scoring opportunities at will, which in turn provided multiple goal kickers (12 in total) and a complete team of best players!
