A grandfather in Lamia, Greece has been charged with raping his two grandchildren, both aged under 10.

The 69-year-old retired lawyer, who has denied the charges, became a suspect after the matter was brought to his granddaughter’s teacher’s attention.

According to reports the seven-year-old told her teacher that she was in physical pain. The school then followed it up with police who led further investigations.

Forensic examinations have since revealed signs of friction in the child’s genital region.

The suspect is also being charged with raping his nine-year-old grandson.

After the results of the examinations were finalised, the 69-year-old’s defence attorney Dimitris Kroupis formally announced his resignation from the case, and said that the client would be representing himself in court.

Up until charges were brought against the grandfather, the children had been living with him and their mother.

The suspect has continued to deny the accusations.

“I have done nothing. I’m a lawyer of 32 years!” he shouted as he left the courthouse.
