Greece’s Gold Olympic medalist Anna Korakaki who hails from Macedonia, Greece has taken to Instagram to express her disappointment over the agreement signed between Tsipras and Zaev, agreeing on “Northern Macedonia” as FYROM’s new name.

The athlete who is a champion in shooting posted a black and white image standing in front of the statue of Alexander the Great in Thessaloniki captioned:

“Apparently they are for sale. Or better, offered. Freely. In a sophisticated way and not democratically at all. Without a referendum and even if the people had spoken, they would have been ignored, again, ostentatiously, unconstitutionally.  As a Greek, with my heritage as a Macedonian, and with my capacity as an Olympian, I am saddened that for so long, I had been trying with my own initiative at international organisations to refrain from referring to FYROM officially using the term Macedonia and now I can no longer do that.”

“I am fighting exclusively for our country and all the Greeks that care about Greece and are in pain. Those who act with disrespect towards history, the struggles, the dead of the country against the people’s will, as it happened today, I kindly ask they don’t want to get photographed next to me in future successful sporting ventures. I represent Greek colours and those triumphs belong to those who love their country, [and can prove it] with their actions. I at least hope democracy will grant me that right… #betrayal”
