Nia Vardalos, 55, has confirmed that she has filed for divorce from her husband Ian Gomez, 53, citing irreconcilable differences.
The Greek American writer and actress, who became an international sensation after her role a Toula Portokalos in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding has also requested both joint legal and physical custody.
The couple have been married for 25 years, since 1993 and have one adopted child together, daughter Ilaria Vardalos Gomez, 11.
“We’ve been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time. Our relationship became a friendship so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable,” the couples joint statement to E! News said.
“It is our hope that decency will prevail on the reporting of this story which will soon be yesterday’s news. Thank you for respecting our privacy.”
In the divorce docs filed at the L.A. County, Vardalos lists the date of separation as June 29, 2017.
