In what can be described persistent rain the Spartans were visitors to Garvey Oval for the game against the Old Paradians. The home side proved to be formidable opponents early and took the game right up to the Hawthorn side until half way through the second quarter when the Spartans drew away asserting their authority over the match. The second half of the game turned out to be a one sided affair with the Spartans scoring 4 goals 3 behinds to the Old Paradians 1.1 – Had the Hawthorn outfit kicked more accurately for the day, it would of ended up as a complete massacre.

This morning at 9.20 am the Spartans, home at the Rathmines Road Oval face their biggest game so far this year against second on the ladder Therry Penola. While last week’s performance by the yellow and brown boys was not great until half way into the game, they will have to be on their toes from the word go today if they are to have a chance of continuing their undefeated run in the league.
Saturday’s home game will give some first time Spartans’ supporters an opportunity to see the team play live. The Hawthorn Spartan management have encouraged this as a family day and in addition to their usual snacks at the food kiosk, have for sponsors, supporters and visitors also arranged for a souvlaki stand!
