The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced on Thursday the results of the Labour Force Survey for the second quarter of 2018.

More analytically, in second quarter 2018:

The number of people employed totalled 3,860,395, while the number of unemployed was 905,983.

The unemployment rate was 19.0 per cent, down from 21.2 per cent in the previous quarter, and from 21.1 per cent in the same quarter one year ago.

The number of employed persons increased by 3.7 per cent compared with the previous quarter and by 1.8 per cent compared with the same quarter one year ago.

The number of unemployed persons decreased by 9.5 per cent compared with the previous quarter and by 10.9 per cent compared with the same quarter one year ago.

About 72.1 per cent of Greece’s jobless are long-term unemployed, meaning they have been out of work for at least 12 months, the figures showed.

Greece’s highest unemployment rate was recorded in the first quarter of 2014, when joblessness hit 27.8 per cent.
