People in Greece are beginning to follow the worldwide trend of shopping online through their mobile phones, as a new survey by Paypal and Ipsos reveals.

More specifically, 25 per cent of all online purchases in the country were made through some form of portable device (mobile phone or tablet), with Greeks opting to buy mainly clothes (68 per cent of all purchases made online), followed by video games (53 per cent) and other electrical appliances (53 per cent).

The survey also showed that Greek consumers tend to trust foreign retailers with their money, as the major percentage of all online purchases from Greece went to companies from the US, the UK, France and Germany.

On the global side of things, China and India continue to lead when it comes to online shopping, with 53 per cent and 48 per cent of all purchases in those countries being made online, with the United States coming in third with 45 per cent.

Meanwhile, even though people are starting to use their portable devices more and more for their online shopping, the fact remains that they still prefer to make them through a desktop computer. This fact is especially evident in the eastern parts of Europe, with Russia having 73 per cent, the Czech Republic 76 per cent and Greece 73 per cent.

In general, international online shopping is continuing to grow and evolve, as is shown from the 55 per cent of the consumers from the 31 countries that participated in the survey, who had made some form of online purchase from another country.
