A campaign to avert the discontinuation of the Greek language program from Coburg West Primary School’s (CWPS) was successful.

On Monday CWPS Principal Mark Colagrande assured the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) that the program will indeed be part of the school’s 2019 curriculum plan.

In a telephone conversation with GCM’s vice president and Education convenor Theo Markos, Mr Colagrande said that the school will set in motion a series of consultation sessions with teachers, parents and members of the Greek community in Coburg, to ensure the future of the program.

From his part, Mr Markos reaffirmed the GCM’s support to the program, promising that the Community will continue working to safeguard the program.

“I would like to congratulate the parents for their immediate reaction and their interest in the continuation of the program,” Mr Markos said, offering praise to Neos Kosmos for campaigning for the issue, but also to Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos, who brought the issue to the attention of the Minister of Education, James Merlino.

“Ms Mikakos proved once again that she is a firm supporter of Greek teaching in public schools,” Mr Markos stressed.
