City of Monash Councillor Theo Zographos is one of the contenders for the seat of Chisholm, vacated by Julia Banks MP.

Cr Zographos’ work for the City of Monash includes the successful effort to secure funding for a multicultural festival in Oakleigh and being part of the team that set in motion the creation of the new children’s hospital at the Monash Medical Centre.

According to sources within the Liberal party, Cr Zographos will enter the Chisholm preselection battle against Whitehorse City Councillor Andrew Davenport and Gladys Liu, who is already preselected for an Upper House spot at November’s Victorian election, and is believed to having the backing of Victorian Liberal Party state president Michael Kroger.

The seat was the only electorate that the Liberals won from Labor at the 2016 election and a redistribution of boundaries means that the Coalition holds the seat by 3.4 per cent. Julia Banks, who won the seat, announced that she will not seek reelection, because of the behaviour of her colleagues, who she accused of bullying, during the Liberal leadership spill that ended Malcolm Turnbull’s prime ministership.
