In an interview to the Athens News Agency (ANA-MPA), the head of Greece’s national cad-aster service, Vyron Nakos announced that legal procedures of transferring the ownership rights of nearly 170,000 properties to the state is about to commence.

According to Greek law, owners have 14 years to declare their property to the cad-aster service from the moment it starts recording real estate in a certain area before the state claims it.

Nakos said that the land registry service has covered some 30 per cent of land rights in Greece and that procedures are currently underway for another 60 per cent of the land rights registrations.

The 170,000 properties which will gradually be transferred to the state have not been declared to the land registry by their owners within the time period given.
