The villa of legendary commander of the Greek naval fleet Andreas Miaoulis has been put up for sale by the Sotheby group.

The house is called Grande Dame and is located on the island of Hydra, offering a great view of the blue waters of the Aegean sea. It was built back in 1808 by Venetian architects and consists of the main villa and a view smaller structures, all surrounded by the stone-built courtyard.

Miaoulis was a trader merchant made politician back in the early 1800’s, when during the revolution of the Greeks against the Turks and the Sultan he was chosen to lead the navy. He claimed many important victories that laid the way for Greece’s independence, including the win in Cape Matapan, Suda and Modon.

He later managed to subdue the pirates that were rampaging all over the country and it was thanks to his contributions that Greek waters appeared safe once again, even for a short while.
