Greek Australian John Macris was laid to rest on Saturday, after his body was flown to Sydney from Athens, where the infamous gangster was shot dead two weeks ago.
According to reports, a private burial was held at Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney’s west attended by family, among them his widow, reality TV star and former Playboy playmate, Victoria Karida.
Macris was laid to rest next to the burial site of his sister Vicki Macris who passed away over 30 years ago from leukaemia.
A traditional Greek Orthodox funeral service was held a week ago at Agios Nektarios church in Voula, Athens.
Meanwhile investigators in Greece are still on the look out for Macris’ killer. The culprit, dressed in dark attire, was captured on CCTV footage firing repeatedly at Macris, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of his black Smart car on October 31 at 9.05 pm. An execution-style killing, the 46-year-old died of a gun shot to the head, which was fired with a 9mm pistol.
According to The Australian, following the murder of her husband, Ms Karida has reportedly told friends that she now fears for her life and would like to move from Athens to Australia.
Ms Karida and Macris share two children, and were married two years ago on Mykonos. Having established a security company by the name of My Services, Macris and the family were based in the Greek capital where they lived in a four-storey mansion that was patrolled by two security guards.
At the time of his death, a warrant was out for Macris’ arrest in Australia, after he allegedly drove on a suspended licence.
