Alexandre Desplat, the French composer of Greek descent, was among the nominees at The 81st Academy Awards held last week.
He was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) for composing the soundtrack for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.

Unfortunately, Desplat missed out with the accolade going to Slumdog Millionaire which proved a solid Oscar favourite on the night.

Desplat is a Golden Globe Award-winning film composer who was born to a French father and Greek mother in 1961. He has received abundant praise for his work in film music including another Academy Award nomination in 2006-07 for Best Original Score in Helen Mirren’s The Queen.

The Oscars were televised in more than 200 countries worldwide last Monday February 22 in Los Angeles.
