Greece’s foreign minister Nikos Kotzias, stepped down from his role last month following a heated cabinet session regarding the name deal with neighbouring Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

On Wednesday, during a heated interview with Greek media outlet News 24/7 Mr Kotzias accused Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of undermining government policy.

“Tsipras behaved like Pontius Pilate,” he said justifying his decision to resign back in 20 October.

“When a person is undermining government policy, [the policy] must be defended in public. This did not happen during the cabinet meeting after which I resigned,” he added attributing his reaction to “a number of campaigns to promote the agreement in northern Greece not being approved “so as not to upset the coalition partner.”

Mr Kotzias who is widely regarded as the main architect of the name deal, complained that during an intense argument with the country’s defense minister and junior coalition partner Panos Kammenos the Prime Minister failed to support him.
