Chris Ikonomidis has been impressive since his return from Italy, to say the least, guiding Perth Glory all the way to the top of the A-League with his four goals so far in the season, two of them being of crucial importance.

These events did not go unnoticed from the Football Federation who voted the former SS Lazio forward as nominee for Young Player of the Year for the months of October and November.

This means that once the season is over, his name will be among those to potentially win a $10,000 personal portfolio at the National Australia bank, who is the major sponsor of the award.

Ikonomidis made the following statement in regards to the announcement:

“It’s a huge honour and I’d like to thank Perth Glory for bringing me in and for giving me the opportunity to play good football. My thanks go to the coaching staff and my teammates and I’d also like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout my career and express my gratitude to the FFA and NAB.”

Ikonomidis was given $1.000 to sponsor any organisation he wanted as a reward for his nomination and the one he named was the Sutherland Sharks, the club at which he started his footballing career.

Thanks to this generous sponsorship, the club will now be able to offer better sporting equipment to all of its young athletes.
