This weekend The Pearl in Oakleigh will come alive with a night of nostalgic Greek music, featuring live performances of much-loved songs from the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Taking place on Sunday 9 December, hitting the stage will be veteran singer George Malliaros together with Anthea Sidiropoulou and her six-piece band Anthea’s Rubies.

The show was inspired by a sentiment of nostalgia for a bygone era, that Anthea realised she shared with her fellow band members; if they felt this way, then surely others were yearning to relive the music of the past too.

They approached George to join them in a program paying homage to musicians of the past, and after a great turnout earlier this year at The Bank in Brunswick have decided to put on one last show to see out the year.

Well-know for his vocal talents across Melbourne’s Greek community, he is remembered most for his performances at Cosmopolitan Tavern during the 80’s.

Located at the Cypriot Community’s former building in the CBD, George ran the popular venue himself together with his business partner Chris, offering up-and-coming musicians a platform, while giving the thriving Greek and wider Australian community a space to venture out, eat delicious food and let their hair down for over 10 years.

Since then, George has gone on to have a successful career singing in his native Greece and adopted home of Melbourne.

On Sunday night audiences will be treated to a catalogue of favourites performed by George and Anthea, including songs by Parios, Dalaras, Mitropanos, Kazantzidis, Tsitsanis, Marinella, Glykeria and Alexiou to name a few.

Nostalgia is on at The Pearl (95 Drummond St, Oakleigh VIC) on Sunday 9 December. Tickets from $28.00 p.p. To book, visit https://www.thepearloakleigh.com.au/events-trybooking
