Santorini Experience has been acknowledged as one of the world’s most successful tourism events.
The unique sporting event was recently honoured at the Travel and Hospitality Awards, receiving the ‘Unique Tour Company of the Year 2019’ Award.
Co-hosted by the Municipality of Thira, the Municipal Athletic Cultural and Environmental Organisation of Santorini, and the Active Media Group, Santorini Experience gives participating athletes the chance to compete in a variety of different sports, including running and open water swimming, while taking in the magnificent sights the island has to offer.
Since the event was moved from August to October, it has gone on to significantly contribute towards extending the tourist season beyond the summer months, evident in the number of arrivals to the island from one year to the next.
In October, 2015 a little over 17,000 people visited the island, however last year that number skyrocketed to 35,000.
Following the positive response, organisers of Santorini Experience have announced that the event will return next year and is scheduled to take place over three days from 4 to 6 October, 2019.
Those wishing to take part in next year’s event will still have to wait a little, as online registrations don’t open until Christmas Day.
