Mats WIlander points to Stefanos Tsitsipas as the man to watch in the world of tennis. Wilander told Eurosport that the 20-year-old won’t be fazed by a meeting with his childhood idol, Roger Federer, tonight.

The Greek sensation will be playing in front of a full house at the Rod Laver Arena, but Wilander predicts that he won’t lose his cool. “I think we might get the wrong idea about him because of his charisma and on-court attitude but he’s like Nadal: mega, mega, mega focused and he wants it.”

‘If you ask me, out of the young guys, if you want someone who can transcend the sport of tennis, this is the guy. He just has to back it up with Grand Slam wins and does he have the game, the level of these guys? I don’t know yet.’ So can Tsitsipas cause an upset and knock Federer out? ‘Of course, he has a chance. He’s 20 years old, completely unafraid. Federer is a dinosaur in a 20-year-old’s mind at 37 years.”

‘The only problem with Federer is that he won the Australian Open last year so he’s the defending champion and is arguably the greatest player of all time,” Wilander added.

But will the young Greek player keep his cool? He was forced to apologise following his third-round win against Nikoloz Bashilasvili after bad on-court antics and an expletive-laden rant at a linesman that included the word “malaka” and Greek comments, such as “F*** your house”.

It was not a proud moment for the winner. “Yeah, I wish I could change that and wouldn’t say that. It’s not the right attitude,” Tsitsipas said following the match.
