“I am so pleased to be able to welcome you all to St James’s Palace this afternoon,” said Prince Charles, in perfect Greek, at an event held in London last week for Greek students and business people.
The reception was for the Prince’s Trust International launched in 1976 to support vulnerable young people. And, since it first began, the charity has helped more than 950,000 youth get their lives back on track in the UK.
Prince’s Trust International was established in Greece in 2015 to offer programmes to 18-to-30-year-old people struggling with the economic crisis. The 5-year-goal of the trust is to help 2,200 young people in cities around Greece. He said that the success of the Prince’s Trust makes it imperative for him to find ways to help young people in the crisis-struck country where youth unemployment is at 39 per cent.
“It is, after all, the land of my grandfather,” he said.
He concluded his speech, in the same language which he had begun. “Together, we can help the young people of Greece to build a brighter future for themselves and their country,” he said, in perfect Greek.
