Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas moved a step closer to his third singles title at the semi-finals of the Marseille Open on Saturday with a 7-6(1) 6-2 win over Belgium’s David Goffin.

Top seed Tsitsipas shot to global prominence last month when he knocked his idol, 20-times Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, out of the Australian Open.

The man who has a souvlaki named after him is set to play Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.

The 31-year-old has won 83 per cent of his first-serve points. He is hopeful that he will be able to win his first ATP Tour final since his maiden title at the St Petersburg Open nine years ago.

Tsitsipas has met Kukushkin twice before with the 20-year-old Greek having won on both occasions.

The final is on Sunday.
